DAY 1                  ARRIVAL IN ACCRA (GHANA)

Arrive in Accra in the evening.  Meet & Greet at the airport and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 2                  ACCRA

Depart on a full day sightseeing tour of Accra. Visit the National Museum and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Continue on a panoramic tour of Old Accra. Rest of day is free to relax.

DAY 3                  ACCRA-KUMASI

Depart Accra for Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Kingdom, after breakfast. Stop to visit Aburi Botanical Gardens established in 1890 as a convalescent for the British Colonial officers governing the then Gold Coast now Ghana. Visit an Ashanti ancestral shrine to explore the beliefs, history and bravery of the traditional African Religion. The Shrine was built around 1850 and is one of the few remaining examples of traditional Ashanti architecture.

DAY 4                  KUMASI           

In the morning, visit the Manhyia Palace Museum which was built by the British in 1925 to receive Asantehene (ruler of the Ashanti people) Prempeh I when he returned from exile in the Seychelles to resume residence in Kumasi. Drive past the Kumasi Central Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa, to visit the National Cultural Center which is home to Prempeh II Jubilee Museum. Visit a few Ashanti craft villages to observe craftsmen at work and to purchase souvenir gift items from the wide assortment of handicrafts on sale. This is a unique opportunity to purchase souvenirs or gifts

DAY 5                  KUMASI – ELMINA

After breakfast depart to Elmina in Ghana’s Central Region. Drive through Obuasi, the location of the Ashanti Goldfields-one of the richest mines in the world. Stop en route at an “akpeteshie” distillery to observe the rudiments of local gin processing. Akpeteshie is a home-made alcoholic spirit produced in Ghana and other West African nations by distilling palm wine or sugar cane juice. Other names for this drink are: “apio’, “ogogro” (ogogoro) and hot or 'hot drink'. Visit the village of Mesomagor to see the Nyamebekyere Kukyekukyeku Orchestra play traditional music on handmade bamboo instruments. Experience village life in Ghana to share experiences and ideas.

DAY 6                 ELMINA

Visit the Cape Coast Castle and the West African Historical Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle, a restored UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was one of the departure points for Africans being sent to the Americas. The castle is home to the infamous “Door of No Return”. Continue to Elmina Castle, another UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1482. This castle was the first European structure in sub-Saharan Africa. Rest of day is free to relax on the beach.

DAY 7                  ELMINA

Early morning, visit Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor to experience the Kakum canopy walkway, Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy,  which is about 1000 foot long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground. Learn at first hand the cultural and medicinal values of the flora and fauna in the forest.

DAY 8                  ELMINA – LOME (TOGO)

Cross the Ghana – Togo border to Lome, Togo, stopping at points of interest.   Arrive in Lome and visit Independence Square, the national Museum, Lome craftsmen village, Lome Central market- realm of the famous Nana Benz, the fishing harbor, the fetish market - the traditional drugstore for the locals.  Visit also the Lomé central market, or Grand Marche, where pearls, baskets, pottery and other products including “sacred” items are on display.

DAY 9 LOME – OUIDAH – COTONOU (BENÄ°N)

Drive to Ouidah, the former slave trading post and birthplace of Voodoo. Visit Voodoo Museum, the Sacred Forest, the Cathedral and the Temple of the sacred Pythons. Continue to the place of the common grave, the tree of forgetfulness and the “Gate of no Return”. Continue to Cotonou for overnight.

DAY 10               COTONOU

Visit the Government district, the Ganvie market zone including the international Dantokpa market with its exuberant traders and the handicraft center. In the afternoon, depart to the lake village - Ganvié, the "Venice of Africa" with its houses built on stilts. Visit the fishers’ street, the lovers’ lane and the Francophonie villa. In the evening visit the Arts and Crafts market.

DAY 11               COTONOU – DEPART

After breakfast, the rest of morning is free for leisure. Check out of your hotel at 12noon and proceed for last minute shopping. Transfer to the airport for departure formalities.
