DAY 1:            ARRIVAL IN ACCRA, GHANA

Arrive at Accra airport. Met, assisted and transferred to your hotel (Hotel Check in is at 3pm).

DAY 2:            ACCRA CITY TOUR

Brief Orientation by a Hausa Tours Staff. After orientation, you would proceed for a full day tour of Accra; visit the National Museum of History and Ethnography to observe exhibits that reflect the heritage of Ghana through-out history to the present. Proceed to visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Park, final resting place of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana. Drive past the Independence Square, Accra’s open-air ceremonial grounds where all national celebrations are held. Continue to the W.E.B. DuBois Center honoring the life of one of the most prominent American Pan-Africanists who chose to live and work in Ghana.

Welcome dinner with traditional entertainment. In attendance would be tailors and dressmakers who design casual wear and formal garments that are made from local fabric and textile may visit your hotel for exhibition. You may purchase ready-made clothes or place an order for a custom-made outfit. Hair braiders will also be available to showcase a wide range of hairstyles.

DAY 3:            ACCRA – ABURI – KUMASI

After breakfast, drive on the winding Akwapim Ridge to Aburi via a stop at the Aburi Craft Village to purchase some traditional African drums. Visit the Aburi Botanical Gardens which was established in 1890 as a convalescent centre for the British Colonial officers governing the then Gold Coast now Ghana and relax under the shade of huge trees, some of which are over hundred years old.

Continue to scenic drive Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Kingdom of gold, history and culture. Stop en route to visit to visit the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) which was founded in 1938 as the Central Cocoa Research Station of the Gold Coast Department of Agriculture. You will be conducted around by the authorities through a model cocoa plantation to see the varied uses of Cocoa; processed into wine, soap etc. Arrive in Kumasi by early evening and check into your hotel. Dinner and overnight

DAY 4:            WEDNKUMASI

Depart for a city tour of Kumasi visiting the Manhyia Palace and Palace Museum, National Cultural Centre, Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and the Okomfo Anokye Sword. Drive past the Kumasi Central Market, one of the largest open-air markets in West Africa. In the afternoon, visit a few Ashanti craft villages to see the skill and imagination of local craftsmen using simple tools and traditional technology to produce breath taking artifacts and designs from which you may pick souvenirs for friends and family back home.

DAY 5:            KUMASI - ELMINA

After breakfast, depart Kumasi for Elmina in Ghana’s Central Region.  Visit Elmina Slave Castle, another UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1482 by the Portuguese as a trading post and later turned into a slave castle. Check into your resort and rest of day is free to relax on the beach.

Dinner with cultural performance by the Mesomagor Bamboo Orchestra at their musical best. The youth at the village of Mesomagor have revived a traditional art, by performing with bamboo percussion instruments to music and dance. This is a contagious dance performance you have not seen anywhere else. (Minimum 10 travellers)

DAY 6:            ELMINA

Early breakfast and proceed to participate in a Traditional Naming Ceremony and claim your African identity by adopting a Ghanaian name. (Minimum 10 travellers)

Visit Cape Coast Castle and the West African Historical Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the departure points for Africans being sent to slavery in the Americas. The castle is home to the infamous "Door of No Return".

In the afternoon, we will drive to the location where we will experience an authentic Ghanaian cooking class (Minimum 10 travellers).

In the evening, join other members of the Diaspora and Ghanaians for the reverential night and candle light procession to remember our ancestors' journey to the slave castles (The dress code for the reverential night is WHITE-WHITE).

DAY 7:            ELMINA – ASSIN MANSO – ELMINA

Depart for Assin Manso and visit the “Slave River” for a comprehensive tour. Participate in 2015 Emancipation Day ceremony. Return to your hotel and the rest of the day is free to relax on the beach.

DAY 8:            ELMINA – KAKUM – ACCRA          

Early morning, visit Kakum National Park, one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor to experience the Kakum canopy walkway, Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy. The canopy walkway is about 1000 foot long and is made up of seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above the forest floor. Learn at first hand the cultural and medicinal values of the flora and fauna in the forest. Continue on a scenic drive to Accra by driving past the village of Abandze, the ancestral home of Louis Armstrong, the famous American jazz musician. Arrive in Accra by late afternoon; those who ordered custom made clothing will go for fittings and adjustments.

DAY 9:            ACCRA          

After breakfast, day is free for last minute shopping. In the evening, proceed for a farewell dinner.

DAY 10:         DEPART ACCRA          

After breakfast, rest of morning is free for last minute and packing. Check out of your at 12pm for last minute shopping. Early evening you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
