DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ACCRA, GHANA
Arrive at Accra airport. Met, assisted, and transferred to your hotel.

DAY 2: ACCRA – SHAI – SOGAKOPE
Depart after breakfast for a visit to Shai Hills Reserve, an expanse of savannah grassland and woodland for a bird-watching experience. Here Senegal Parrot, Swallow-tailed Bee-eater, Vieillot’s Barbet, Piapiac, and red-shouldered Cuckooshrike can be seen. In the afternoon, travel to Sogakope for an overnight stay.

DAY 3: SOGAKOPE – XAVI - HO
Depart to visit the Xavi Bird Sanctuary, a community-based eco-tourism project centered on birds that inhabit the area. See birds like Cinnamon Chested Bishop, Yellow- Crown Bishop, Senegal Fire- Finch, Splendid Sunbird, and Senegal Coucal. You may choose to go on a canoe ride on the Lotor River.

DAY 4: HO–BOBIRI
Depart to visit Bobiri Forest Reserve and Butterfly Sanctuary in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. Stop at Odumasi Krobo to visit Cedi’s Beads Factory to observe the intriguing bead-making process. Watch the centuries-old process of bead-making from start to finish. Arrive in Bobiri by early evening and enjoy a birding experience in the Bobiri Forest Reserve and Butterfly Sanctuary. See specialties like the highly threatened bare-headed rock fowl, Narina Trogon and Shining Drongo.

DAY 5: BOBIRI - KUMASI
Embark on an early morning bird-watching experience. Depart Bobiri Forest Reserve for Kumasi, the capital of Ghana’s Ashanti Region. Arrive by afternoon and go on a city tour of Kumasi visiting Manhyia Palace Museum and Prempeh II Jubilee Museum for an insight into Ashanti Kingdom history and culture.

DAY 6: KUMASI
Depart after breakfast to visit the Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary, the smallest Wildlife Protected area in Ghana. The Sanctuary is also the only inland Ramsar Site in Ghana. It is home to many butterflies, over 140 species of birds, monkeys, and the more reclusive bush pig, bushbuck, and antelope.
In the afternoon, visit a few Ashanti craft villages to observe craftsmen at work and purchase souvenir gift items from the wide assortment of handicrafts on sale.

DAY 7: KUMASI - KAKUM
Depart Kumasi for a scenic drive to Kakum in the Central Region of Ghana. Stop en route in a village to visit an “akpeteshie” distillery to observe the rudiments of local gin processing. Arrive in Kakum by early evening and go on an evening bird-watching experience in the Kakum National Park. See enigmatic birds including the Black-casqued Hornbill, Black Bee-eater, and Blue Cuckoo-shrike.

DAY 8: KAKUM
Go on a morning walk on the “Kuntan Trail” in the Kakum National Park with its countless trees with medicinal and cultural properties. For the young at heart experience the “Canopy Walkway” suspended 100 feet from the forest ground for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the remaining vestiges of the rainforest. Spend the most critical bird viewing hours 100 feet above the forest floor on the Canopy walkway, which platforms are large enough to support Telescopes.
Visit the Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built by the Portuguese in 1482. View its utterly distinct architecture.
In the evening, visit Hans Cottage Botel for a sundown drink. Stop at the lily-covered pond in search of African Pygmy Goose, African Jacana, and Malachite Kingfisher.

DAY 9: KAKUM - ACCRA
In the morning, depart Ghana’s Central Region for a return trip to Accra. En route stop to visit the Panbros Coastal Salt Lagoons to observe how salt is mined using old and modern methods. Arrive in Accra by late afternoon and check into your hotel.

DAY 10: ACCRA - DEPART
This morning is free for last-minute shopping and parking. Hotel check-out is at noon. Transfer to the airport for check-in and departure.
