DAY 1: Arrival

DAY 2: Accra
Depart your hotel for a city tour of Accra. This 133-year-old city has a blend of colonial and modern architecture that summarize her history. Drive past the Jubilee House which serves as the office and residence of the President of Ghana to visit the University of Ghana Campus which was founded in 1948; it is the oldest and largest of the five Ghanaian public universities. Of interest is its distinct Japanese architecture. You may stop to visit the university bookshop. Continue to visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and National Museum.
Drive past the Independence Arch and the Black Star Square- Accra’s ceremonial grounds. View from the distance, Christiansburg Castle, formally the office of the President of Ghana. Continue to drive through Old Accra. This is a contrast to Victorian, Dutch, and post-colonial architecture.
You will drive past the Usher and James Town Forts, Old Accra Square, and the Post Office. Your last stop for the tour will be the Arts and Crafts market where you may try out your bargaining skills on the local Vendors and ‘shop till you drop.

DAY 3: Tema
Depart Accra for Tema, the first planned city in West Africa. Drive past the various communities. View the distinct layout of the communities and industries.
Proceed to visit the National Theater, an outstanding architectural archetype of a ship, which houses the National Theatrical groups for a tour of the facility. View this unique Chinese architecture. Return to your hotel.
In the evening, there would be an interaction with the members of the Ghana Institute of Architects to share ideas and experience

DAY 4: Cape Coast
Breakfast and hotel check-out. Depart for Cape Coast in the Central Region. Travel westwards through the coastal savannah plains and along the coast through several fishing villages and coconut-lined beaches.
Arrive at Cape Coast and visit the Cape Coast Castle. Originally started by the Swedes in 1652, it served as the headquarters and seat of the British colonial government until 1877. Go on a comprehensive tour of the Castle, the Slave Dungeons, and the West African Heritage Museum.
The guide will lead you to slave quarters and Negotiation Hall where our ancestors were bargained and sold. Drive through the Cape Coast Township with its narrow streets modeled on the Yorkshire Districts of England. Brief stop at London Bridge. It features a double moat.
Continue to visit the Elmina Castle, the first and oldest European structure built of any substance on African soil. This was built by the Portuguese in1482 and later used as an auction market for a comprehensive guided tour. See the slave dungeons and condemn cells where slaves who attempted to escape were incarcerated. View its utterly distinct architecture.

DAY 5: Kakum National Park
Depart for Kakum National Park. Go on a morning walk on the 'Kuntan Trail” with its countless trees with medicinal properties. For the young, at heart experience, the “Canopy Walkway” is suspended 100 feet from the forest ground for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the remaining vestiges of the rainforest. The rest of the day is free to relax at the beach.

DAY 6: Takoradi
Depart for Takoradi for a visit to the modern Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi. View this splendid Chinese architecture. Continue to Sekondi European Town for sightseeing of the old colonial buildings, High Court, Commercial, Residential buildings, and the old Railway Station
Return to Elmina. You may choose to go on a walking tour of the Elmina Township visiting the Posuban Shrines, the Dutch Cemetery, and the Harbour.

DAY 7: Kumasi
Depart after breakfast to Kumasi. Pass by several scenic villages and charming towns through the evergreen forests.
Arrive in Kumasi and go on a city tour visiting Manhyia Palace and Palace Museum, National Cultural Centre, Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, the Okomfo Anokye Sword, and the Kumasi Central Market – the largest open-air market in West Africa.

DAY 8: Village Tour
Depart your hotel for visit to a few Ashanti craft villages to observe craftsmen at work and to purchase souvenir gift items from the wide assortment of handicrafts on sale. Ahwiaa – the woodcarver’s village
specializing in woodcarvings such as the Ashanti stools, fertility dolls, and walking sticks. Proceed to visit Ntonso – Adinkra cloth and tie-and-dye process where you will have an opportunity to create your own designs and Bonwire for the famous Kente cloth.
After lunch continues to visit the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Visit and interact with Staff and Students of the Faculty of Architecture.

DAY 9: Accra
Breakfast and hotel checkout. Depart after breakfast for Accra with a stop to visit a rare surviving example of a unique architectural style of an Asante Traditional Building at Ejisu-Besease. This building has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and hosts an exhibition that provides both historical and technical information on Traditional Asante Architecture. View this beautiful and unique architecture.
Arrive in Accra by late afternoon and check into your hotel.
