DAY 2: City Tour-Museum Tour

Orientation on the expectations of the tour by Hausa Tours Staff

Depart after breakfast for a city tour of Accra visiting the uniquely designed special caskets that reflect the beliefs of the local people in life after death at the La Township. Therefore a bus driver may be buried in a bus, a waiter in a beer bottle, a teacher in chalk, etc. Proceed to the National Museum of History and Ethnography with exhibits that reflect the heritage of Ghana throughout history to the present. This Museum houses a varied collection of Ghanaian artifacts.

Visit Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Park, the final resting place of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana. The Mausoleum has been visited by many world dignitaries.

After lunch continues to visit the Arts and Crafts market, the best place in Accra to find traditional handicrafts from all over Ghana and beyond. Drive past the Independence Arch and Black Star Square- Accra’s ceremonial grounds. View from a distance Christiansborg Castle, the formal office and residence of the President of Ghana. At the Arts and Crafts Market, you may try out your bargaining skills on the local vendors and "shop till you drop".

The rest of the day is free to relax.

DAY 3: Depart Accra for Kumasi in Ashanti Region

Depart Accra after breakfast for Kumasi in the Ashanti Region; the Kingdom of Gold, History, and Culture. Drive past several scenic villages and charming towns.

After lunch, go on a city tour of Kumasi visiting the Manhyia Palace and Palace Museum. Manhyia is the seat of the Ashanti King. The current palace was built to house the Ashanti king, Na Agyemang Prempeh I on his return from exile in 1924. Visit the National Cultural Centre, Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, the Okomfo Anokye Sword within the compound of the Okonfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), and the Kumasi Central Market – the largest open-air market in West Africa. Check into your hotel

DAY 4: Depart Kumasi to the Northern part of Ghana

Breakfast and hotel check out

Depart Kumasi to the Northern part of Ghana. Drive 6 hours through the forest belt past several food-producing villages into the transitional forest–to–grassland vegetation zone. Notice the gradual change in architecture, vegetation, and human activities. En route stop to visit Larabanga Village to learn more about village life in Ghana. Visit the ancient Larabanga Mosque a Sudanese-style mosque built more than 500 years ago. Continue to Mole National Park, the largest game park in Ghana.

Arrive in Mole and go on a late afternoon game viewing of Mole National Park which is home to about 600 elephants, baboons, monkeys monitor lizards, bush bucks, antelopes, and several wild animals. Watch different kinds of animals in their natural habitat. Check-in at your hotel.

DAY 5: Depart for an early morning walking Safari of Mole National Park and its surroundings.

Take your time watching elephants, baboons, monkeys, monitor lizards, bush-bucks, antelopes, and several wild animals and several bird species. Watch different kinds of animals in their natural habitat.

After breakfast, morning at leisure. Relax by the pool with a view of the water hole observatory.

Visit Mognori Eco Village and observe village life and share experiences with some members of the community. Go on a canoe safari on the Mole River. This safari is excellent to view birdlife along the river. Your guide will show you animal tracks and tracking techniques.

DAY 6: Depart Mole for Wechiau

Breakfast

After breakfast, depart Mole for Wechiau which is famous for its famous Hippo Sanctuary where you will see interesting wildlife around the riverside forest and adjoining woodland savannah. On arrival visit a traditional Lobi village and compound to learn about their traditional practices and ways of life.

After lunch, go on an afternoon river safari to see the endangered local population of Hippopotami, on the Black Volta River, which the locals are now protecting through a community-based project. Here you will see interesting wildlife around the riverside forest and adjoining woodland savannah. The hippos, which are rather temperamental animals, are viewed by canoe journey down river to the Tankara area. Join the local people in a Xylophone music performance and enjoy Pito, a locally brewed beverage with very low alcohol content

DAY 7: Scenic drive to the Ashanti Region

Depart after breakfast on a scenic drive to the Ashanti Region. Drive through Techiman, a major agricultural market town. Techiman is important by its strategic position as the largest food crop market town in Ghana.

In the afternoon, continue to the ancient capital of the Ashanti kingdom, Kumasi; it is the Kingdom of Gold, History, and Culture. Arrive by late afternoon and check into your hotel.

DAY 8: Visit a few Ashanti Craft Villages

Depart after breakfast to visit a few Ashanti craft villages to see the skill and imagination of local craftsmen using simple tools and traditional techniques to produce breathtaking artifacts and designs from which you may pick souvenirs for friends and family back home. Visit Ahwiaa – the woodcarver’s village specializing in woodcarvings such as the Ashanti stools for our Chiefs and Queen mothers, fertility dolls, and walking sticks.

After lunch, the rest of the day is free to rest or explore Kumasi on your own

DAY 9: Depart Kumasi for Elmina in the Central Region

Depart Kumasi for Elmina in the Central Region. Drive past scenic villages and charming towns through the evergreen forests.

Arrive in Elmina and visit the Elmina Castle; which was built by the Portuguese in 1482, for a comprehensive guided tour. The Castle is the first European structure built in Sub-Saharan Africa. View its architecture and distinct features. Check into your hotel

DAY 10: Kakum National Park

After breakfast visits the Kakum National Park. Go on a morning walk on the “Kuntan Trail” with its countless trees with medicinal properties. For the young-at-heart experience, the “Canopy Walkway” is suspended 100 feet from the forest ground for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the remaining vestiges of the rainforest.

Spend the most critical bird viewing hours 100 feet above the forest floor on the Canopy walkway, which platforms are large enough to support Telescopes. See enigmatic birds including Black-casqued Hornbill, Black Bee-eater, and Blue Cuckoo-shrike.

Visit the village of Mosomagar, a village noted for its unique Bamboo Orchestra. Go on a tour of the village and experience this truly breathtaking Bamboo Orchestra and the traditional cultural dancing that accompanies it. All the traditional dances have meanings behind them and are a view to behold.

DAY 11: Accra

Depart the Central Region for Accra, Ghana’s capital city. Drive along the coast through several fishing villages and coconut-lined beaches. Stop to visit the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1652 and was later taken over by the British, for a conducted tour. This Castle served as the seat of the former colonial administration of the then Gold Coast (Ghana’s former name) till 1877 when it was relocated to Accra. The Castle also houses the West African Historical Museum. The guide will conduct you to the slave quarters and Palaver Hall where enslaved Africans were bargained for and sold.

After lunch, continue to Accra with a drive past the Panbros Coastal Salt Lagoons where salt is mined using old and modern methods. Arrive by late afternoon and check into your hotel.

DAY 12: Shopping-Departure
